BREAKING: Okowa begged, lobbied to become Atiku’s running mate
A former chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Timi Frank has alleged that Ifeanyi Okowa, the 2023 vice presidential candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party begged and lobbied to become Atiku Abubakar’s running mate.
Reacting to the gale of defections which rocked the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the past days, Frank condemned Okowa’s comments over his ‘supposed‘ regret of contesting the 2023 presidency alongside Atiku.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Frank said he believes Okowa must have been misquoted because he lobbied and fought hard to become Atiku’s running mate in the last election.
According to him, it is disappointing that hours have passed and the former is yet to debunk the statement attributed to him.
He also highlighted the importance of setting the records straight in such a matter.
He further described Okowa as a pathological liar and a betrayal.
His words, “This is not Okowa’s first attempt at a high-level betrayal. The tale of how he stabbed ex-Governor James Ibori, his erstwhile godfather, in the back because of power is still fresh in our memory.”
The former deputy national publicity secretary of the APC said he understands that Okowa is fighting hard to evade prosecution by the Economic and Financial Crimes (EFCC) hence his need to shift base.
“It is understandable that Okowa is fighting the battle of his life to evade prosecution by the EFCC over corruption allegations against him but to make Nigerians believe that he now “regrets” taking up the position of vice Presidential candidate of the PDP in 2023 is not only an an afterthought but cowardice in full bloom.
“We know how Okowa begged, fought and lobbied to get the position,” he said.
