A violent clash between two rival cult groups on Sunday led to the tragic death of a young man, identified as Nasiru, in the historic town of Owo, located in Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The incident occurred just a week after a similar cult war in the town claimed the lives of four individuals, highlighting the ongoing threat of gang violence in the area.
According to sources, two masked individuals, believed to be members of a rival cult, tracked Nasiru to the LA Gbanasa area and fatally shot him in the head.
He said the two mean left the scene immediately after ascertaining that the deceased had died.
Speaking on the development, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Funmi Odunlami, who confirmed the incident said the deceased was a notorious cult member in the town.
She explained that Nasiru had been on the wanted list of the police command and has participated in many heinous activities in the community.
She said, ” The command can confirm the murder of one Nasir isiaka aged 40 years, a notorious cultist who has been on the police wanted list.
“The police at A Division Owo today (Sunday) received a distress call that someone was shot at LA , Gbanasa Area of Owo by two masked men.
“On getting to the scene, the police discovered that the deceased was a cultist who participated in the End SARS Protest, attacked Uso Division and and stole an AK 47 and bullet proof vest belonging to the police.
“He also participated in the killing of one Adedeji Rafiu aka P.A. His remains has been deposited at the morgue”.
Odunlami said the command had commenced investigation into his killing and to apprehend those behind his killing.
