President Tinubu Expresses Confidence in National Assembly Support, Vows to Lead Nigeria to the Promised Land
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended the unwavering support of the National Assembly over the past 19 months, expressing confidence in their shared commitment to driving Nigeria toward prosperity.
Speaking at his Ikoyi residence in Lagos on Wednesday, Tinubu hosted Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, and other key members of the National Assembly during a New Year homage. The meeting also included former principal officers of the legislature.
Commitment to National Transformation
In a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, the President reiterated his administration’s focus on serving Nigerians and delivering transformative results.
“Nigerians are the heart of everything we are doing. We have come to serve,” Tinubu declared. “The transformative journey we have embarked upon is for all of us, for our tomorrow, and for the future generations. Your commitment will yield fruits for the babies yet unborn.”
The President highlighted his administration’s resolve to build a prosperous and united nation, emphasizing the importance of courage, competence, and collective effort in overcoming challenges.
“We are determined, capable, and resolute. Together, we will take Nigeria to the Promised Land,” he assured the lawmakers.
Legislative Backing for Reforms
Senate President Godswill Akpabio commended Tinubu’s leadership and bold reforms, pledging the National Assembly’s full support.
“On this journey of restoration, transformation, and rebuilding the nation, you are not alone. The National Assembly is with you and will stand by you,” Akpabio said.
He also highlighted positive economic indicators under Tinubu’s administration, including the oversubscription of Nigeria’s Eurobond, improvements in the ease of doing business, and growing foreign investor confidence.
“We salute your courage, and we commend the bold reforms. Investors remain optimistic about Nigeria’s future because of your leadership, and the benefits will continue to materialize,” Akpabio added.
National Assembly’s Historic Role
Speaker Tajudeen Abbas expressed gratitude for the President’s consistent support of the legislature, noting the unique relationship between the administration and the National Assembly.
“Many key figures in this administration, including the President, Vice President, and other top officials, have roots in the National Assembly. This shared history has fostered unprecedented unity and collaboration,” Abbas said.
He lauded Tinubu’s efforts in easing economic hardships, pointing to improved access to food and signs of growing prosperity toward the end of 2024.
“As we enter 2025, we believe this will be the ultimate year where every Nigerian will take pride in this administration’s achievements,” Abbas concluded.
