Silekunola Naomi Ogunwusi has broken her silence on the tragic events of December 18, 2024, which claimed the lives of several children during an event intended for good.

In a heartfelt message shared on social media, the former wife of the Ooni of Ife extended her deepest condolences to the bereaved families while expressing gratitude for the support she received during her recent legal ordeal.

“As a woman and a mother who for many years has been a passionate lover and advocate of children, my heart bleeds and goes out to the bereaved families whose children lost their lives,” she wrote.

“My prayer is for God to comfort the families and rest the souls of the children who lost their lives in the unfortunate occurrence.”

Naomi revealed that she had been legally restrained from speaking on the matter until now, following a court order.

However, she expressed relief that charges against her had been withdrawn after what she described as “a compassionate consideration from the Oyo State government.”

“Through God, in His infinite mercies today, the charges against us were withdrawn after a compassionate consideration from the Oyo State government, having considered our intention and our attitude towards all that has happened,” she disclosed.

Despite the legal victory, she acknowledged that the pain of the tragedy remains, saying, “Though we feel relieved by the outcome of today’s court proceeding, my heart and the heart of everyone directly affected still grieve the loss. I pray for our healing and ask for your prayers also.”

The former queen expressed profound appreciation for the overwhelming support she received from religious leaders, government officials, traditional rulers, and humanitarian organisations across the world. “I have received a love so pure, so genuine, with no iota of discrimination and prejudice,” she wrote.

She reserved special gratitude for her family, friends, and loyal supporters, saying, “Indeed, eniyan laso mi (people are my covering). You all prayed for me, on me, and with me. Haaa! Thank you! I couldn’t believe my ears and my eyes because I heard, saw, and felt it.”

Naomi concluded her message on a hopeful note, reassuring her followers that brighter days are ahead. “Joy is coming!” she declared, citing 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 and Psalm 30:5.
