BREAKING: Osun APC dismisses fake news on suit to validate mandate of its Council chairs

The All Progressives Congress (APC), Osun State chapter, has debunked a false report circulating on social media, claiming that the party filed a suit to validate the mandate of its members who are Chairmen and Councillors in Local Government Councils.

The APC said that the misinformation is being spread by members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State.

This was contained in a statement signed by the APC, State Legal Adviser, and Executive Chairman, Irepodun Local Government, Adegoke Ogunsola, said that the malicious report further alleges that the said suit, filed at the Federal High Court, Osogbo, was dismissed today, 4th March 2025.

The main opposition party in Osun appealed to the general public to disregard those falsehoods being circulated for political motives.

According to statement, “The attention of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Osun State Chapter, has been drawn to a news item circulating on social media. The news contains misinformation, falsely claiming that a suit was filed by the APC to validate the mandate freely given to some of its members, who are now Chairmen and Councillors in the Local Government Councils in Osun State.

“This false information is being widely circulated, particularly by members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State.

“The news is not only misleading but also a deliberate attempt by its promoters to discredit the judgment delivered on 10th February 2025 by the Court of Appeal, Akure, which reinstated those duly elected on 15th October 2022 to govern the Local Government Councils in Osun State.

“It is important to clarify that the hierarchy of courts in Nigeria does not permit a lower court, such as the Federal High Court, to review or pronounce on the judgment of the Court of Appeal. Therefore, the claims by certain individuals—believed to be members of the PDP—are fabrications designed to mislead the public and gain sympathy for the failed attempts by the Osun State Government to prevent and frustrate the reinstatement of the duly elected Chairmen and Councillors.”
