Teachers in Osun State have officially endorsed Governor Ademola Adeleke for a second term in office.
The endorsement was made by the teachers under the umbrella of the Governor Ademola Adeleke Intellectual Forum during a programme organised by the teachers at Oduduwa College, Ile-Ife.
Speaking at the event, the leader of the forum, Mr. Adeleke Babatunde, explained that the teachers had gathered to support Governor Adeleke for a second term due to his exceptional performance, which he described as unprecedented in the history of Osun State.
He highlighted the numerous benefits teachers have enjoyed under Adeleke’s administration, such as the payment of the highest minimum wage for teachers in Nigeria, improved welfare packages, and regular promotions, as opposed to the previous administration’s practice of paper promotions without corresponding financial rewards. Babatunde also noted the construction and renovation of schools across the state, which have significantly improved the educational infrastructure.
He praised the current administration for bringing positive changes to the lives of teachers, noting that education in Osun State had witnessed tremendous development under Governor Adeleke’s leadership.
Professor Wale Oladipo also spoke at the event, recalling how teachers played a pivotal role in the election of Adeleke in 2022. He reminded the audience of the hardships teachers endured under the previous APC government and the remarkable improvements made by the current administration. Oladipo commended the present government for rectifying past mistakes, particularly in terms of teacher welfare, regular salary payments, and the enhancement of the learning environment in Osun State.
He urged teachers to continue their support for the administration, stressing the importance of their ongoing contributions to the development of education in the state.
Alhaji Saka Adesina, former Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Osun State, also spoke in favour of Governor Adeleke. He acknowledged the governor’s efforts in the areas of infrastructure development, education, welfare, healthcare, and other key developmental projects.
Adesina called on Osun’s teachers to show their appreciation for the governor’s work by supporting his re-election bid. He highlighted that Governor Adeleke had implemented the best minimum wage for workers in Nigeria and had increased the pensions of retirees, including paying outstanding pension arrears.
He encouraged teachers to mobilise for Adeleke’s second term, announcing that a mega rally would be organised in support of the governor. Adesina concluded by urging teachers to continue backing the current administration to ensure the continued delivery of the dividends of democracy.
