BREAKING: Oyetola meets Port of Antwerp Executives, harps on collaboration

The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Alhaji Adegboyega Oyetola has met with a high-level delegation from the Port of Antwerp and His Excellency, Belgian Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Pieter Leenknegt.

Meeting with the high-level delegation, Oyetola reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening international partnerships in the maritime sector.

The discussions, held in Abuja, focused on enhancing maritime trade, improving port management practices, and leveraging innovative solutions for the sustainable development of Nigeria’s blue economy.

Speaking on the significance of the meeting, Oyetola emphasised that collaboration with global maritime leaders like the Port of Antwerp will position Nigeria as a major player in international trade.

“This engagement marks an important step in advancing Nigeria’s maritime sector. By working with strategic partners like Belgium, we aim to improve port efficiency, enhance trade relations, and drive innovation in the blue economy,” the Minister stated.

The Port of Antwerp, one of Europe’s largest and most advanced ports, is recognised for its expertise in smart port technologies, logistics efficiency, and sustainability-driven maritime practices. Discussions also explored opportunities for capacity building, knowledge exchange, and investment partnerships that will boost Nigeria’s port operations.

Ambassador Pieter Leenknegt expressed Belgium’s readiness to support Nigeria in achieving global best practices in maritime trade and port management, highlighting the economic benefits of a strengthened bilateral relationship.

The meeting reflects the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to reposition Nigeria’s marine and blue economy sector for sustainable growth. With this renewed collaboration, stakeholders anticipate increased foreign investment, improved trade logistics, and a more competitive maritime industry in Nigeria.
