Nnamdi Kanu’ s lawyer, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, has raised the alarm that his client has been diagnosed with a gastrointestinal disorder.
It would be recalled that Kanu is currently being held in custody for his role as leader of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra.
Ejiofor said in a statement that was released on Monday that the development came after the secessionist had been suffering from recurrent heartburn for some time.
The lawyer also claimed that despite an order from Justice Binta Nyako of a Federal High Court in Abuja that Kanu should be given serious medical attention, the Department of State Services, also known as the DSS, has been behaving in a manner that is contrary to the ruling.
The lawyer called attention to his health on Monday when he went to the DSS Headquarters in Abuja to visit the IPOB leader.
He said, ” Presently, Onyendu is experiencing the gastrointestinal disorder, which requires regular intake of antacid and other availing medical solutions, following persistent heartburn.
” Unfortunately, the DSS has denied him the least of the prescribed painkiller tablets that could provide momentary relief.
” Following this development, our erudite lead counsel, Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN) has immediately swung into action to ensure an immediate end to this maltreatment and impunity. “
