BREAKING: PDP Governors Endorse Udeh-Okoye as National Secretary

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors Forum concluded its first monthly meeting for 2025 on Friday in Asaba, the capital of Delta State. The Forum resolved to support the Court of Appeal’s ruling that recognised the former National Youth Leader, Hon. S.K.E Udeh-Okoye, as the legitimate National Secretary of the PDP. They urged the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) to act promptly in implementing this court decision.

The Forum also recommended that the NWC reschedule the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting, originally set for February, to 13th March 2025.

Expressing concern over the hardship faced by citizens, the party called on the Federal Government, led by President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC), to review its macroeconomic policies to alleviate the suffering of the Nigerian populace.

These conclusions were outlined in a communiqué issued after the meeting, which was attended by the Forum Chairman and Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Mohammed, along with other governors including Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State, Peter Mbah of Enugu State, Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State, Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State, Diri Duoye of Bayelsa State, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State, Ademola Adeleke of Osun State, Muftwang of Plateau State, Agbu Kefas of Taraba State, Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State, and Deputy Governor Barr. Bayo Lawal of Oyo State.

The communiqué, presented by the Forum’s Chairman, stated, “The Forum took this opportunity to review member states’ performances and the overall state of the nation, along with the party’s developments as of the end of 2024.

“The meeting highlighted that the Federal Government’s macroeconomic policies have caused significant hardship and adversity within the polity. The Forum therefore urges the Federal Government to either revisit or reform these policies to alleviate the pains inflicted on Nigerians, as no meaningful achievements in the states can occur until these harsh policies are addressed.

“The Forum welcomed the ongoing efforts to resolve the National Working Committee’s internal conflict regarding the National Secretary position and reaffirmed support for the Court of Appeal’s decision. Consequently, they advised the NWC to establish the necessary measures for effectively implementing the court’s ruling.

“Having reviewed all legal requirements for convening the NEC, the Forum recommended rescheduling the meeting to 13th March 2025.”

The Forum also expressed concern over what it described as the resurgence of non-state actors and called for the enhancement of the nation’s security framework.

They encouraged Nigerians not to lose hope amidst the prevailing hardships, assuring them that the PDP will soon return to power to restore the nation.

“While commending the nation’s hardworking and patriotic Armed Forces and security agencies for their efforts in securing the country and achieving victories against bandits, the Forum expressed deep concern over the renewed activities of brazen non-state actors. Therefore, it calls for the strengthening of the nation’s security architecture.

“Finally, the Forum urged Nigerians to remain hopeful in the face of current difficulties, confidently asserting that the PDP is committed to restoring our great nation to the better days of the pre-2015 era, characterised by manageable living costs, security of lives and property, and greater unity and prosperity for all citizens,” the communiqué further stated.

The Forum praised the governors of member states for implementing policies and programmes that not only alleviated the people’s plight but also laid a foundation for sustainable development in their regions.

It specifically commended Governor Oborevwori for his administration’s significant advancements in infrastructure, environmental remediation, empowering citizens, and tackling insecurity in Delta State.
