A former governor of Benue State, Gabriel Suswam has described the People Democratic Party (PDP) as a party that is on the verge of witnessing its last days within the Nigerian polity.

Suswam, also a chieftain of the PDP said the party could cease to exist before the next general elections scheduled to take place in 2027.

Speaking on Arise Television on Tuesday, May 13, the former governor said it is pertinent for leaders of the opposition party take necessary steps to nip the challenges of the PDP in the bud.

According to Suswam, some members and leaders of the PDP are barely clinging onto to the party while they watch to see where the pendulum would swing on key issues affecting the party ahead of the scheduled poll in  2027.

Such individuals – whom the former governor said have lost faith in the PDP – are just waiting to see the next line of action by party leaders to know what steps to take ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He stated, “Whether there is light at the end of the tunnel in the efforts made by Senator Saraki will be seen in the next two weeks. For now, I would say that PDP is it in the hospital? Yes. Is it in the ICU to some extent?

“Yes, it is. Can it be rescued? Yes, if the proper medicine is applied,” Suswam noted.

Recall that PDP has been hit by several challenges including a massive defection which rocked the party’s chapter in Delta State where Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and his predecessor, Ifeanyi Okowa defected alongside other key members of the party.

Also, in Rivers State, Governor Siminalayi Fubara who has had a long-standing battle with his predecessor, Nyesom Wike who is currently serving as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory was suspended.
