BREAKING: PDP Vows To Reclaim Power In 2027, Strengthen Party Unity

The national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed confidence that the party will reclaim governance at the federal level and produce more state governors in the 2027 elections.

This was disclosed during a visit by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) to Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri at his country home in Sampou, Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area, on Sunday.

Speaking on behalf of the NWC, the National Treasurer, Alhaji Ahmed Yayare, attributed the optimism to widespread dissatisfaction across the country, driven by lingering economic hardship under the current administration.

He said, “The cry of hunger and poverty is too much in the land.

“Nothing stops the PDP from producing the president and vice president in 2027. The APC cannot go out to campaign because they will be stoned. Nigeria is in your hands. We need your support to salvage Nigeria.”

He added that the PDP remains the only viable opposition party capable of rescuing the country, warning that failure to take over power in 2027 could spell doom for democracy in Nigeria.

Call For Unity And Strengthening the Party

Yayare emphasized the need for PDP governors to close ranks and work together towards actualizing the party’s vision.

He also stated that the NWC would embark on a nationwide campaign to canvass support ahead of the 2027 elections.

National Secretary, Ude Okoye, reiterated the party’s determination to reposition itself as a credible alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

“The NWC will swing into action to strengthen the party and ensure respect for the PDP and its governors,” he said.

Okoye commended Governor Diri for his leadership and developmental achievements in Bayelsa State, describing him as a model for good governance.

In his response, Governor Douye Diri stressed the importance of unity among party members, urging them to prioritize the PDP’s collective interests over personal ambitions.

“As governors, we need to work closely together. We need to do what is right without minding whose ox is gored. If PDP dies in our hands, posterity will not forgive us,” Diri stated.

He called on party members to avoid divisive actions, including frequent court cases over disputes, and to build consensus as an alternative method of resolving issues.

Diri also expressed support for the idea of forming a mega party with the PDP at its core to ensure it stands out as a formidable force to reclaim power in 2027.

He said, “We cannot be in PDP in the daytime and at night be in another party.

“We need to do in-house cleansing and strengthen the party to salvage the country from its current slide.”

The visit also included condolences to Governor Diri over the recent deaths of the retired Deputy Inspector General of Police Moses Jituboh and the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs. Elizabeth Bidei.
