BREAKING: Police arrest 12 for vandalism, theft of transformers, cables in Ekiti

The Ekiti State Police Command has arrested 12 suspects over the vandalisation and theft of electric cables and transformers in Ado Ekiti and other parts of the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Sunday Abutu, said in a statement on Wednesday that the suspects were apprehended in various criminal hideouts within and outside the state capital.

Abutu stated, “Following reports of vandalisation of electric cables and transformers in the state, the Ekiti State Police Command’s Rapid Response Squad, in collaboration with non-state actors, launched a manhunt for the perpetrators.

“This effort yielded positive results as operatives swooped on their various hideouts on February 22, 2025, around 1:30 pm and arrested 12 suspects.”

The police spokesperson said investigations revealed that the suspects had confessed to the crimes, adding that several stolen items were recovered from them, including rolls of armoured cables, recline cables, aluminium conductors, a transformer feeder pillar, binding wires, electrical cables, and generator parts.

Abutu noted that the suspects would be arraigned accordingly.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Ekiti State Command, Joseph Eribo, has warned criminals in the state to desist from their activities, vowing that the police would not relent in their efforts to clamp down on criminal elements.
