The suspects, Garba Audu, who is also referred to as the “Youth Leader of APC,” and Kabiru Abubakar, both residents of Layin Arfa, were apprehended and paraded on Tuesday at the Gomber command of the Nigeria Police Force.
According to the victim, Idris Usman, the suspects approached him while he was travelling to Lariski Market on his Bajaj motorcycle, carrying two bags of beans.
He noted that after agreeing on a price of ₦210,000, he later realized that the money he received was fake, prompting him to raise an alarm that ultimately led to the suspect’s arrest.
During the press briefing on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Gombe State Command, ASP Buhari Abdullahi, stated, “The suspects confessed to the crime during interrogation and disclosed that the counterfeit money was supplied by one Abdullahi, alias ‘Manci,’ of Potiskum Local Government Area, Yobe State, who is currently at large.”
Abdullahi further detailed the evidence recovered during the investigation.
“The suspects were arrested, and their vehicle was searched, leading to the recovery of two bags of beans and ₦39,000 in counterfeit notes.
“The suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation,” the police mouthpiece concluded.
He commended the public for their vigilance and cooperation in providing critical information that facilitated the arrests.
The police have assured the public of their commitment to cracking down on such crimes and urged anyone with further information about the fugitive’s whereabouts, Abdullahi, to come forward.
