BREAKING: Police begin clampdown on vehicles without third-party insurance in Kaduna

In a bid to enforce road safety laws and protect citizens from financial liabilities arising from road accidents, the Kaduna State Police Command has commenced full enforcement of the mandatory Third-Party Insurance Policy for all motor vehicles, effective February 1, 2025.

The enforcement directive follows the order of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, and has been implemented by the Commissioner of Police in Kaduna State, CP Rabiu Muhammad.

Speaking on the development, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Kaduna State Police Command, DSP Mansir Hassan, in a press statement issued to journalists in Kaduna on Saturday, emphasized that the enforcement is in line with existing traffic and insurance laws.

DSP Mansur warned that defaulters would face strict penalties as prescribed by law.

“The enforcement of the Third-Party Insurance Policy is a legal requirement and a crucial step in ensuring that road users are adequately protected. We urge all motorists to ensure they possess valid insurance to avoid penalties,” DSP Hassan stated.

He further explained that third-party insurance provides coverage for damages or injuries caused to other people, including pedestrians, passengers, and other road users, in the event of an accident.

According to him, the policy is designed to ensure that victims of road crashes receive adequate compensation without financial burdens falling solely on vehicle owners.

The Kaduna State Police Command has deployed officers across the state to enforce compliance, with a directive to impound vehicles found without valid third-party insurance. Motorists are advised to update their insurance documents immediately to avoid disruptions to their daily activities.

Residents and motorists have been advised to visit authorized insurance providers to obtain valid third-party insurance, as ignorance of the law will not be accepted as an excuse.

With this enforcement now in full swing, Kaduna motorists who fail to comply risk facing legal consequences, as the police remain determined to uphold the law and enhance road safety in the state.
