BREAKING: Police lift ban on use of tinted glass

The Nigeria Police Force has announced plans to lift the ban on the usage of tinted glass.

It, however, expressed plans to introduce stringent measures to prevent abuse and ensure compliance with guidelines governing its issuance and use.

In a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force revealed intentions to train ICT analysts and enforcement officers nationwide to ensure compliance.

Adejobi emphasised that the proposed tinted glass permit would incorporate distinctive features aimed at enhancing enforcement efficiency and security.

The decision to review the ban stemmed from concerns regarding the role of tinted glass in facilitating criminal activities such as kidnapping, armed robbery, and human trafficking.

The statement highlighted that the training of ICT analysts and enforcement officers is scheduled for February 29, 2024, ahead of the reopening of tinted glass permit issuance.

The proposed permit will feature advanced security measures such as QR codes linked to a central database, unique serial numbers correlated with vehicle and owner details, and digital holograms to ensure authenticity. These measures align with existing laws, including the MOTOR VEHICLES (PROHIBITION OF TINTED GLASS) ACT 1991, emphasizing the police force’s commitment to public safety, individual rights, and national security interests.

The Nigeria Police Force pledges to provide updates to the public on the implementation of the reviewed tinted glass permit issuance process, ensuring transparency and accountability in maintaining internal security.
