BREAKING: Police nabs man for allegedly chopping off wife’s wrist in Enugu

The Enugu State Police Command has apprehended 33-year-old Sunday Echege, a resident of Ibagwa-Agu Farm Settlement in Ibagwa-Ani, Nsukka Local Government Area, for allegedly severing his wife’s left wrist over accusations of infidelity.

The arrest followed a swift response from the local community, and the machete used in the crime has been recovered.

The incident, which occurred in Ibagwa-Ani, was confirmed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, in a statement released on Tuesday.

The police image maker said preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect, who has confessed to the crime, claimed he acted out of suspicion that his wife, Chinonso Echege, was involved in extramarital affairs.

The suspect, according to him, would be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigations.

Meanwhile, the State Police Commissioner, Kanayo Uzuegbu has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department, CID, to ensure a thorough and timely investigation, followed by the prosecution of the suspect.

The commissioner further advised couples to resolve their differences through love, understanding, and legal means, rather than resorting to violent criminal acts.
