BREAKING: Police Neutralise Seven Terrorists, Recover Arms, Ammunition

The Nigeria Police Force has neutralised seven terrorists and seized 23 firearms, along with various types of ammunition, in recent operations throughout the country.

In a statement issued on Sunday via X, the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, indicated that these operations are part of ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks and enhance internal security.

The statement detailed that on 14 February 2025, armed assailants invaded Gobiraje Village in the Suru Local Government Area of Kebbi State, kidnapping a 60-year-old man, Umaru Bawa.

Police operatives in Kebbi tracked the suspects to Tundafari Forest in the Dakingari area. There, they engaged the kidnappers in a gunfight, resulting in the deaths of four assailants and the arrest of one, who sustained serious injuries. The victim was rescued unharmed, and N3 million, previously paid as ransom, was recovered.

Similarly, on 8 February 2025, police operatives in Imo State, in collaboration with other security agencies, raided an IPOB/ESN terrorist camp in Ezioha Mbaitolu, Umuele Umuaka, Njaba LGA. During the operation, two ESN kingpins were neutralised, and security forces seized seven AK-47 rifles, 13 pump-action guns, and hundreds of rounds of live ammunition.

On 9 February 2025, as a follow-up, operatives advanced to Nkwukwo Forest in Mbaitoli LGA, adjacent to the Ubachima Forest in Awomama Oru West LGA, Imo State, where they intercepted a group of terrorists who opened fire upon their arrival. In the ensuing exchange of gunfire, three additional terrorist kingpins were neutralised. The police recovered two AK-47 rifles, each loaded with 36 rounds of live ammunition, one pump-action gun, a cutlass, four motorcycles, and various criminal charms.

“These operations not only exemplify the Force’s commitment to upholding law and order but also highlight its determination to dismantle the criminal networks threatening the safety of citizens. The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, praised the valiant efforts of the operatives involved and stressed the importance of sustained vigilance in the battle against crime.

“The Force reassures the public that these operations will continue with renewed determination as it works to create a safer environment for all Nigerians. As part of these ongoing initiatives, the IGP has advocated for enhanced intelligence gathering, community engagement, and the prompt reporting of suspicious activities by citizens. The Nigeria Police Force remains dedicated to safeguarding lives and property, fostering community trust, and promoting a peaceful and secure nation,” the statement concluded.
