BREAKING: Police warn against unapproved hiking in Abuja as kidnappers target young hikers

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has cautioned the public, particularly youth groups and hiking enthusiasts, against embarking on camping and hiking activities without prior notification to security agencies.

In a statement on Tuesday, the FCT Commissioner of Police, Ajao Adewale, made mention of the security risks associated with such outings, especially in remote and unsecured locations.

“The FCT Police Command advises members of the public, especially youth groups, organizations, and hiking enthusiasts, to take necessary precautions before engaging in camping and hiking activities,” the command’s spokesperson, Josephine Adeh said.

She reiterated that organizers must inform the police beforehand, as failure to do so could expose participants to security threats.

“Remote locations are often vulnerable to criminal activities,” she warned.

Adewale urged proper coordination with law enforcement to ensure safe routes and adequate security arrangements.

He also stressed the importance of effective communication with security agencies before and during such activities to mitigate risks and improve emergency response.

Residents were advised to report any suspicious activities and seek security coverage by contacting the FCT Command through its emergency lines: 08032003913, 08061581938, 07057337653, and 08028940883.
