BREAKING: Power Tussle: Meranda steps down as Lagos Assembly Speaker

Mojisola Meranda has resigned as the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, effective immediately. Meranda’s resignation was announced during a special plenary session on Monday, March 3, 2025, where she read out her resignation letter.

“This is a notice of resignation as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly,” Meranda stated, bringing an end to her brief tenure, which began on January 13, 2025, following the removal of former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa.

Despite her short time in office, lawmakers praised Meranda’s leadership and her ability to foster a positive atmosphere in the Assembly.

Her resignation, however, has raised questions about the future of the Assembly and the potential implications of Obasa’s return.

Meranda’s resignation was accompanied by the resignation of all principal officers appointed alongside her, further fueling speculation about the power shift in the Assembly.
