The Labour Party (LP) Presidential candidate for the 2023 poll, Mr Peter Obi, has cleared all the 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) so far collated and declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Anambra State.
The electoral officers for various LGAs disclosed this at the presidential collation centre currently ongoing at the INEC headquarters in Awka, the State capital under the supervision of State Collation Officer and Vice Chancellor, Federal University of Technology, Owerri, Professor Nnenna Oti
Anambra State has 21 LGAs, but results so far collated include Ayamelum, Dunukofia, Njikoka, Ekwusigo, Anaocha, Awka South, Awka North, Anambra West, Aguata, Nnewi South, Oyi, Anambra East and Onitsha South. Others were Idemili North, Idemili South, Orumba North, Orumba South, Ihiala, Aguata and Nnewi North.
According to the results, Obi won in Aguata LGA, where governor Chukwuma Soludo hails from, and Idemili North where the Director General of Atiku Abubakar campaign organisation in Anambra State, Professor Obiora Okonkwo, and Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige come from.
For Aguata, Obi gathered 37,478 votes to defeat the presidential candidate of All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), Professor Peter Umeadi, that scored only 712 votes.
The candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, came distant third in the LGA with 522 votes, while Senator Ahmed Bola Tinubu of All Progressive Congress (APC) secured 301.
The state INEC collation officer for Presidential poll, Professor Oti, while suspending the collation at 9.01pm, hinted that Ogbaru LGA was remaining and would be announced on Tuesday as the LG returning and collation officers were yet to arrive with the materials.
