BREAKING: PSC orders retirement of police officers above 60

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has directed the immediate retirement of senior police officers who have either served for more than 35 years or reached 60 years of age.

This decision was made during the Commission’s first extraordinary meeting of 2025, led by its Chairman, retired Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Hashimu Argungu.

Other key officials, including retired Supreme Court Justice Adamu Paul Galumje, retired DIG Taiwo Lakanu, and Commission Secretary Chief Onyemuchi Nnamani, were also present.

The Commission stated that the move aligns with public service regulations, which require officers to retire after 35 years of service or at the age of 60.

A previous decision in 2017 had linked appointment dates to enlistment dates, but a review found that this contradicted public sector retirement policies.

Following this reassessment, the Commission has instructed the Inspector General of Police to implement the directive immediately.

This enforcement aims to maintain compliance with established retirement rules within the Nigeria Police Force.
