BREAKING: PSC Sacks Two Police Officers, Demotes Six Over Alleged Corruption, Others

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the dismissal and prosecution of two Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASP) due to alleged misconduct, dishonesty, corruption, sabotage, and behaviour unbefitting of public officers.

The Commission also approved the demotion of six other officers for similar offences.

Among those affected are two Superintendents of Police who have been demoted to the rank of Deputy Superintendent, one Deputy Superintendent who has been reduced to Assistant Superintendent, and three Assistant Superintendents who are now Inspectors.

Naija News reports that this information was disclosed in a statement issued by the PSC spokesperson, Ikechukwu Ani, and shared with journalists on Monday, January 13, 2025.

The statement indicated that these actions were significant outcomes of the concluding phases of the Commission’s second Plenary Meeting, which took place at its Corporate Headquarters in Jabi, Abuja.

Furthermore, the Commission has imposed a severe reprimand on ten senior police officers found guilty of unauthorized disclosure of official secrets, dishonesty, sabotage, and conduct unbecoming of senior police personnel.

Additionally, nine senior officers received reprimands, while a Deputy Commissioner of Police was acquitted and exonerated, and an Assistant Superintendent of Police received a warning letter.

The Commission has previously addressed recommendations regarding Police Promotions, resulting in the advancement of several senior Police Officers.

This includes the promotion of eleven Commissioners of Police to the rank of Assistant Inspectors General of Police, 16 Deputy Commissioners to Commissioners, 21 Assistant Commissioners to Deputy Commissioners, 57 Chief Superintendents to Assistant Commissioners, and 1,348 Superintendents to Chief Superintendents.

Notable individuals among these promotions are Obi-Ejoh Nnamdi Patrick, the former Commander of the Anti-Narcotics section at the FCT Command, who is now stationed at the Kaduna Command, and Milicent Amadi, the Officer in Charge of Surveillance at the State CID in Ebonyi State Command.

According to Channels Television, the statement made available to the media on Monday noted that 876 Deputy Superintendents have been elevated to Superintendents, including Daniel Ndukwe, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Enugu State Command.

DIG Hashimu Argungu, the Chairman of the Commission, emphasized the importance of discipline among Nigeria’s Police Officers to ensure they effectively fulfil their constitutional duties of law enforcement and the protection of lives and property.

He also highlighted the Commission’s commitment to addressing Pending Disciplinary Matters (PDM) to prevent any undue stagnation of Police Officers.

These decisions have been formally communicated to the Inspector General of Police for implementation, as indicated in a letter signed by the Commission’s Secretary, Onyemuche Nnamani.
