On Saturday, nearly 1,000 women, including infants, girls, and widows, received free medical care at Full Life Specialist Hospital in Enugu during the Well Women 2024 Free Medical Outreach, organised by the hospital’s management in collaboration with Powell Homes and Shelters Limited.
The event commenced around 7 a.m., with beneficiaries receiving a range of medical attention at the hospital, located at No. 3C Ụmụawulu Street, Independence Layout.
The services provided included consultations for various medical and surgical issues, obstetrics and gynaecology cases, Ear, Nose, and Throat conditions, pediatric consultations for young girls, dental check-ups, dermatology assessments, laboratory tests, free medications, X-rays, breast examinations, health talks and interactive sessions, ultrasound scans, and more.
Speaking to the press, Dr. Goodness Nwabueze, Managing Director of Full Life Specialist Hospital, explained that this yearly event aims to assist individuals, particularly indigent women, in understanding their health status and addressing health-related issues.
She noted that this year’s outreach attracted over 980 women from diverse backgrounds seeking the support offered.
Dr. Nwabueze emphasised that the initiative is part of the hospital’s commitment to community welfare, aligning with the principles of corporate social responsibility in Nigeria.
She also highlighted the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle, particularly for women, who play a vital role in nurturing future generations.
Dr. Nwabueze commended the management of Powell Homes and Shelters Limited, led by Architect Chibuikem Onyekachi, for their continuous support, stating that over 95% of the programme’s logistics were covered by the company.
In his address, Architect Chibuikem Onyekachi, Managing Director of Powell Homes and Shelters Limited, expressed their choice to partner with the hospital because of its exemplary reputation and dedication to saving lives.
He remarked on the impressive turnout for this year’s exercise, expressing his delight that many lives were saved and hopes were renewed.
Barr. Nnenna Anozie, Program Officer of the League of Women Voters of Nigeria (NILOWV), praised both Full Life Specialist Hospital and Powell Homes and Shelters Limited for their commitment to enhancing the welfare of the community, particularly women.
She stated that the outreach had made a significant impact in saving lives and providing hope to numerous families. According to her, the initiative underscored the necessity of prioritising women’s health and ensuring access to free, quality medical care during challenging economic times.
Barr. Anozie urged other organisations and individuals to follow this commendable example by supporting similar initiatives that address the healthcare needs of women and children, particularly the underprivileged. She reiterated that investing in women’s health positively influences the well-being of society as a whole.
Additionally, the legal expert took the opportunity to inform women about their rights, offering insights into gender-based violence and stressing the importance of raising awareness among women.
She called on all stakeholders to unite in the fight against gender-based violence for a better society.
Beneficiaries expressed heartfelt gratitude to the organisers, describing the outreach as a timely blessing. Many shared how the initiative allowed them to receive medical care they had previously postponed due to financial difficulties. They noted that the quality of care, along with the interactive health sessions, empowered them with the knowledge to better manage their health and that of their families.
Some mothers who brought their daughters for pediatric consultations expressed relief after their children received appropriate diagnoses and treatments. Others praised the organisers for providing essential services like laboratory tests and free medications, viewing these as lifesaving for those unable to afford high healthcare costs. Many expressed hopes that such initiatives would continue, positively impacting lives for years to come.
