BREAKING: Rivers 2025 Budget: Amaewhule-Led Assembly Kicks

The Martin Amaewhule-led Rivers State House of Assembly has expressed its disapproval of Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s presentation of the 2025 Appropriations Bill to the three-member Assembly, which is aligned with Victor Oko-Jumbo, a loyalist of the governor.

This issue dominated Tuesday’s plenary session, during which the House Judicial Committee, led by Deputy Speaker Dumle Maol, presented the Court of Appeal judgment affirming the legitimacy of the House and Martin Amaewhule’s Speakership.

The Deputy Speaker criticized the governor for disregarding the court’s ruling.

Two other lawmakers voiced their strong discontent with the governor’s actions, with member Smart Adoki suggesting that the judgment be referred to security agencies for further action.

In his remarks, the Speaker lamented the governor’s apparent disregard for the rule of law and order.

On Monday, Fubara had proposed a ₦1.1 trillion budget for 2025 to the Victor Oko-Jumbo-led Assembly.

He described the budget as a blueprint for building on the achievements of his administration in 2024 while laying a foundation for sustainable development.

The governor highlighted the successes of the ₦800 billion 2024 budget, noting that Rivers State achieved significant milestones in economic growth and revenue generation.
