The 9th edition of the Sub-Saharan Africa International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (SAIPEC) commenced today at the Eko Hotel, Lagos, bringing together industry leaders, policymakers, and investors to discuss the future of Africa’s oil and gas sector.
In his welcome address, Chairman of the Petroleum Technology Association of Nigeria (PETAN), Engr. Wole Ogunsanya emphasized the vital role of energy in driving economic growth, energy security, and sustainable development across Africa.
“This conference serves as a platform for industry stakeholders to share knowledge, explore innovative solutions, and address the critical challenges facing our sector,” Ogunsanya stated.
“One of the most pressing issues remains financing, and we are encouraged by the recent launch of the Africa Energy Bank by the African Export-Import Bank and the African Petroleum Producers Organization (APPO), headquartered in Nigeria.”
Ogunsanya highlighted major milestones in the industry, including Shell’s $5.5 billion Bonga North deepwater project, Nigeria’s issuance of ten gas distribution licenses, and significant natural gas developments in Senegal and the Republic of Congo.
He also commended South Africa, Egypt, and Morocco for their leadership in renewable energy.
The conference will feature discussions with key stakeholders, including representatives from APPO, development banks, and private equity firms, as they explore opportunities for investment and collaboration.
“As we look to the future, PETAN remains committed to fostering partnerships that will drive Africa’s energy transition and ensure a sustainable future for generations to come,” Ogunsanya concluded.
SAIPEC 2025 is set to continue over the next few days, promising in-depth discussions and strategic agreements that could shape the next phase of Africa’s energy evolution.
