Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan representing Kogi Central, has declared that her six-month suspension from the Senate will not stop her from carrying out her duties.
Her suspension was announced during Thursday’s plenary following her accusation of sexual harassment against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
The decision was based on a recommendation from the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions.
Despite this, Akpoti-Uduaghan has insisted that she remains a legitimate senator and will keep working for her constituents.
She described the suspension as unfair and politically motivated but assured her supporters that she would continue to serve them.
As part of the suspension, she will lose access to the National Assembly premises, her salary will be withheld, and her legislative aides will not be paid.
However, she remains determined to uphold her mandate until her tenure ends in 2027.
She wrote on her Facebook page on Thursday night:
“Against the culture of silence, intimidation and victim-shaming; my unjust suspension from the Nigerian Senate invalidates the principles of natural justice, fairness and equity.
“The illegal suspension does not withdraw my legitimacy as a senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and I will continue to use my duly elected position to serve my constituents and country to the best of my ability till 2027 … and beyond.”
