Following reports that the Bola Tinubu-led federal government is contemplating establishing a State Police in the nation, former senator Shehu Sani, who served the good people of Kaduna Central Senatorial Zone, replied.

In response, Senator Shehu Sani stated emphatically that the federal government should exercise caution when establishing state police, pointing out that Nigerians had witnessed how State Governors handled the State Electoral Commissions.

Senator Shehu Sani made this disclosure in a post he made on his official X handle on Thursday afternoon, shortly after the news was reported.

He wrote: “We have seen how the Governors handled the State’s Electoral commissions; We must be cautious with the State police.”

It should be recalled that it was reported earlier today that Bola Tinubu’s led federal government may adopt state police, to check rising insecurity in the country.

The minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, reportedly made this disclosure on Thursday, after a meeting between between President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the state governors, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, the nation’s capital. The minister went on and noted that a series of meetings would take place to determine the workability of a decentralised police force.
