BREAKING: Southeast governor orders arrest of 6 commissioners

The governor of Ebonyi State, Francis Nwifuru has allegedly ordered the arrest of six commissioners over an alleged violation of contracts in the state.

Vanguard reports that the commissioners alongside a local government chairman were accused of breaching the terms stipulated for the construction of 140 units of house in two different communities in the state.

According to the report, the houses were mapped out to be constructed for residents of Izzo and Amaze communities, who were displaced by the Ezilo/Ezza Ezilo communal crisis in Ishielu Local Government Area of Ebonyi.

In addition, the governor also suspended the chairman of Afikpo Local Government Area.

Governor Nwifuru was said to have declared the commissioners and the chairman wanted before their eventual arrest would take place.

1.1.Professor Omari Omaka (Tertiary Education)

2.Victor Chukwu (Environment)

3.Ifeanyi Ogbuewu (Culture and Tourism),

4.Uchenna Igwe (Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters)

5.Moses Ekuma (Health

6. Felix Igboke (Project Monitoring).

7.Chairman of Afikpo Local Government Area, Timothy Nwachi

Confirming the incident, the chairman of the State Executive Council Committee on the Izzo and Amaze Housing Project, Ilang Donatus said the officials failed to adhere to the terms of the contract.

He said, “The governor is not happy over the pace of the work, which ought to have been completed. The government has decided to clamp down on the contractors and commissioners who were mandated to supervise those projects.

“As you can see, our governor is a man with a passionate heart, he likes giving succour, hence the building of those houses for the victims of the communal crisis. He is not happy that the project is delayed and has ordered to arrest of all the commissioners who are supposed to ensure the speedy completion of the housing units,” he noted.
