BREAKING: SSANU, ASUU, Others Commend Sokoto Governor For Salary Increase

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), and the National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) of Sokoto State University have lauded Governor Ahmed Aliyu for his efforts in improving the welfare of university staff.
The unions commended the Governor for his swift implementation of the approved 25% and 35% salary increments for staff, in accordance with the federal government’s agreement.
In a joint statement, the three unions expressed their appreciation for the Governor’s prompt actions in settling outstanding allowances and ensuring that state workers receive the N70,000 national minimum wage.
They also acknowledged his unwavering commitment to the welfare of civil servants in Sokoto State, urging him to continue this positive trajectory.
The unions, led by Dr. Saidu Isah Abubakar (ASUU), Comrade Ismaila Bala Muhammad (SSANU), and Comrade Aminu Yahaya Mika’ilu (NAAT), said Governor Aliyu’s decision to restore and ensure timely payments for visiting and sabbatical lecturers, along with other university staff members is remarkable.
According to them, the governor’s intervention has contributed significantly to the academic growth and stability of Sokoto State University.
“In addition to the salary adjustments, we expressed our gratitude to Governor Aliyu for his support in facilitating accreditation exercises for the university’s academic programs by the National Universities Commission (NUC), these efforts have played a crucial role in raising the institution’s academic standards and reputation.
“We also recognized the solid foundation laid by the university’s founder, Distinguished Senator Dr. Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, in establishing Sokoto State University as one of the few in Nigeria to begin academic activities on its permanent site.

However, while expressing their satisfaction, the unions appealed for the completion of the institution’s staff housing projects, which are currently at an advanced stage of development.
They noted that completing these projects would provide staff with on-campus housing, fostering a more conducive academic environment for both staff and students.
