
The streets of Osogbo, the Osun State capital, were largely deserted on Saturday as the state government insisted on conducting the Local Government election despite security concerns raised by the Nigerian Police Force.
Although the police had advised against proceeding with the polls, citing security threats, the Osun State Government rejected the warning, labeling it as biased and politically motivated.
A tour around Osogbo revealed a heavy presence of security operatives stationed at strategic points. The few vehicles on the road were subjected to thorough security checks. Business activities were also at a standstill, with shops, markets, and commercial centers shut down.
