Augustine Eguavoen’s surgical procedure had been delayed multiple times, primarily due to the hectic schedule associated with the Super Eagles’ campaign for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Recall that Eguavoen led the Super Eagles to qualify for the 2025 AFCON in November. He had to stay away from the 2024 CHAN qualifiers against Ghana due to his health challenges.
In his absence, assistant coach Daniel Ogunmodede has stepped up to take charge of the home-based Super Eagles as they prepare for the second leg of the qualifier against the Black Galaxies of Ghana.
In the first leg of this crucial qualifying match held in Accra, the Eagles managed to secure a 0-0 draw. This result sets the stage for an important second leg, where the home-based Super Eagles will look to capitalize on their home advantage.
The team has returned to Nigeria and arrived in Uyo on Tuesday, gearing up to host the Black Galaxies at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium on Saturday, December 28.
The outstanding performance in the upcoming match is critical, as a victory is necessary for the Eagles to secure their spot at CHAN 2024.
Upon arrival in Uyo, Ogunmodede and his squad immediately commenced preparations for the game.
They are expected to have their first training session at the practice pitch of the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium tonight, December 24.
