BREAKING: Super Eagles Drop In FIFA Rankings After Zimbabwe Draw

After the aftermath of the disappointing 1-1 draw against Zimbabwe, the Super Eagles of Nigeria have dropped to the sixth position in Africa in the monthly FIFA rankings.

The Super Eagles were in action in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe in March, but the team could only earn four points from six.

The first match ended 2-0 in Kigali, and the second was a heartbreaking 1-1 draw at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo to dent the team’s chances of qualifying for the World Cup.

In December, Nigeria occupied the fifth position, but they have moved down to sixth.

However, in the world rankings, the Super Eagles moved up to 43rd after finishing 2024 in the 44th position.

Nigeria ended 2024 in the 44th position, which was their lowest ranking in six years, marking a significant drop from their 28th place standing at the start of the year.

In Africa, Morocco maintained their spot as the highest-ranked team, moving up to 12th in the world rankings.

Senegal (19th ), Egypt (32nd ), Algeria (36th ), and Côte d’Ivoire (41st ) rounded off Africa’s top five, while Nigeria, ranked fifth in December, fell to sixth.

Argentina maintained their spot as the world’s number one team, while Spain climbed above France to claim the second position.

England, Brazil, the Netherlands, Portugal, Belgium, Italy, and Germany completed the top 10.

The Super Eagles will be hoping to improve before the next rankings are released on July 10th.

The team will be in action in the Unity Cup, billed for London between May 27 and 30, where they will play two matches.

Nigeria will also take on Russia in an international friendly on June 6th.
