BREAKING: ‘Tarring of Road is No Longer Fashionable’: Senator Kalu Charges SEDC, NWDC to be more Innovative

Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, Chairman of the Senate Committee on the South East Development Commission (SEDC), has called on the newly appointed members of the commission to adopt a more innovative approach in fulfilling their responsibilities.

Senator Kalu made the call during the official inauguration of the members of both the South East Development Commission and the North West Development Commission (NWDC).

The Senator representing Abia North emphasised that “tarring roads is no longer fashionable.”

He urged the commissions to explore “innovations like building a common railway lines, common power plants, and new cottage industries that will help our people to survive and provide employment opportunities for them.

“Let us harness our God-given resources to revitalise our economy.”

Reminding them that the National Assembly Committees will rigorously monitor their activities, Senator Kalu urged both commissions to reject all forms of corruption and to ensure that public funds are utilized for the benefit of the people, while also “making reasonable profits.”

He expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the establishment of the commissions, asserting that they will drive development at the grassroots level. He also commended the Minister of Regional Development, Engr. Abubakar Momoh, for his dedication to the commissions.
