A former lawmaker of the Nigerian Senate, Shehu Sani has reacted to the ongoing political crisis between the Rivers State governor, Siminalayi Fubara, his predecessor, Nyesom Wike and members of the State’s House of Assembly led by Martins Amaewhule.
Sani in his reaction noted that the ultimate goal in the crisis rocking the state is the impeachment of Governor Fubara by the House of Assembly lawmakers.
Recall that Governor Fubara was shut out of the State Assembly Complex while trying to re-present the Rivers’ State 2025 appropriation bill to the lawmakers on Wednesday, March 12.
After the incident, the governor who spoke to journalists at the Assembly premises said he had tried severally to initiate a conversation with the reinstated speaker but to no avail.
According to Fubara, he (the governor) has called the Speaker on phone to discus way forward for the state and its people but got no response from Amaewhule.
However, in a post shared on X, Sani insinuates that the parties against the governor are only aiming for his impeachment.
He wrote on X, The ultimate goal in Rivers is impeachment and not peace;what happens afterwards is left to God.”
Meanwhile, the former governor of the state and current minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike in a recent media chat with journalists has said that “heaven will not fall” should Fubara be impeached as governor.
Wike’s comment during the chat comes shortly after President Bola Tinubu had, for the second time, tried to broker peace between the warring parties in Rivers State.
