BREAKING: Tinubu heads to Tanzania for Africa’s Energy Summit

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has departed Abuja for Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, to attend the Africa Heads of State Energy Summit, scheduled for January 27-28, 2025.

The Summit, hosted by the Tanzanian Government in collaboration with the African Development Bank Group and the World Bank, aims to advance “Mission 300”, a bold initiative targeting electricity access for 300 million Africans by 2030.

The Summit will convene African leaders, private sector stakeholders, development partners, and civil society organizations to strategize on addressing the continent’s energy challenges.

According to a statement by Bayo Onanuaga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, the Summit will provide a platform for knowledge-sharing and resource mobilization to propel Africa’s energy transformation.

Participating countries, including Nigeria, will present their national energy strategies, referred to as “compacts,” detailing their plans to achieve universal energy access within the next five years.

Also, African leaders will adopt the Dar es Salaam Energy Declaration, which outlines a unified roadmap for achieving the Mission 300 objectives.

President Tinubu is expected to deliver a national statement reiterating Nigeria’s commitment to universal energy access and its leadership in Africa’s energy sector.

The President is scheduled to return to Abuja after the Summit.
