Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has praised President Bola Tinubu for prioritizing the Igbo ethnic group, stating that Tinubu is the first Nigerian president to take significant steps for the Igbo since the end of the civil war over 50 years ago, as reported by THE CABLE.
Kalu made the statements during an empowerment program in Ndoki, Ukwa East Local Government Area of Abia State.
The event was organized by Chris Nkwonta, a lawmaker representing Ukwa East/West Federal Constituency.
At the event, over 3,000 members of various political parties reportedly joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Kalu described the mass defection as a sign of trust in Tinubu’s administration.
He highlighted Tinubu’s efforts, particularly the establishment of the South East Development Commission (SEDC).
Kalu said the commission is designed to address the region’s infrastructure challenges and improve the lives of its people.
According to Kalu, the SEDC symbolizes Tinubu’s commitment to fulfilling promises made to the Igbo after the civil war.
He referred to Tinubu as the only leader who has truly remembered Ndigbo since the federal government’s promise of reconstruction and reconciliation 54 years ago.
Kalu urged the people of the South East to support Tinubu’s government.
He said their cooperation would ensure the region benefits from more developmental projects.
“The president has tried for Ndigbo. He is still trying for Ndigbo. He is the only man that remembered Ndigbo after 54 years that a promise of reconstruction, reconciliation and rehabilitation was made to Ndigbo,” Kalu said.
