President Bola Tinubu has expressed profound sadness over the fuel tanker explosion that claimed over 80 lives and left many others injured on Saturday at Dikko Junction in Gurara Local Government Area, Niger State.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and the government of Niger State.
Describing the explosion as a tragic and avoidable disaster, Tinubu lamented that many of the victims lost their lives while attempting to collect fuel from the overturned tanker.
To address the aftermath, the President directed immediate medical attention for the injured and tasked authorities with implementing measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
He also advised Nigerians to avoid accident sites involving fuel tankers due to the risk of explosions.
Additionally, Tinubu instructed the National Orientation Agency to launch a nationwide awareness campaign to educate citizens on the dangers of scooping fuel from crashed tankers.
