BREAKING: To End Illegal Production of Arms, Military Hints at Engaging Local Gun Producers

In a bid to end the growing production and circulation of illegal arms in Nigeria, the military has hinted on the possibility of engaging manufacturers of local guns.

Speaking during his visit to front line troops of Operation Safe Haven in Plateau State, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa said the military would harness the skills of law-abiding citizens in such ‘industry’.

According the CDS, engaging local producers of firearms and military equipment will help clean up the system of such illegality.

He said this would probably happen in collaboration with the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON).

The disclosure by the CDS follows a review of a cache of locally made arms and ammunition seized by the troops of the Nigerian Military within the areas of operations across regions of the country.

General Musa further inspected the military and operational equipment in the forward operation base, while stating that additional resources were on the way to improve welfare and operations of the troops.

He also urged troops under the Operation Safe Haven to ensure they put in their best in ending insurgency and banditry in the areas.
