Super Eagles captain, William Troost-Ekong has assured fans that the team is fully prepared for their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Rwanda on Friday.

Nigeria faces the Rwanda at the Stade Amahoro as they look to revive their qualification hopes after a disappointing start to the campaign.

The Super Eagles have managed just three points from their first four games, putting them in a precarious position in Group C.

Historically, Nigeria has struggled to secure an away victory against Rwanda, but Ekong insists the team is not concerned about past records.

“Actually, we read about that in some places but we are not bothered. I was part of the last game in Kigali which ended scoreless, but we know that we cannot afford a draw this time,” the CB told thenff.com.

“Our objective is to pick the three points and bring some life back into our campaign.

“We are certainly not concerned about history books and what has happened before now. Qualification for the FIFA World Cup is our priority.”

The 31-year-old stressed the need to stay focused and take each game as it comes, especially under newly appointed head coach Eric Chelle.

The team has undergone tactical drills and fitness sessions in Kigali, with Chelle working closely with the players to implement his style.

Meanwhile, FIFA has appointed Moroccan referee Jalal Jayed to officiate the match.

Jayed previously handled a friendly between Nigeria and Ghana in Marrakech on March 22, 2024, which the Super Eagles won 2-1; their first victory over the Black Stars in 18 years.

The highly anticipated clash against Rwanda is set to kick off at 5pm Nigerian time.
