Steep US tariffs on imported automobiles kicked in Thursday, fanning trade tensions with key partners amid mounting fears of consumer price hikes.
The 25 percent tariffs take effect at 12:01 am (0401 GMT) on foreign-made cars and light trucks, with automobile parts to be hit no later than May 3, according to a Federal Register notice.
