BREAKING: Turaki, Makinde, Mohammed Take PDP Leadership Battle to Appeal Court (Photos)

The factional National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, on Tuesday, along with Governors Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State and Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, were physically present at the Court of Appeal in Abuja over a case on the leadership tussle within the party.

Naija News reports that other members of the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) were also in court for the scheduled hearing regarding the party’s leadership status.

The case before the appeal court is a testament to the long leadership battle in the PDP, which has pitched the Makinde faction against the camp loyal to the Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

Recall that a Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan nullified the PDP National Convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State, on November 15, 2025.

In the ruling, presiding judge, Justice Uche Agomoh, barred members of the Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC) from parading themselves as national officers of the PDP.

The judgment also recognised the party faction led by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

Delivering judgment on Friday, the court held that the Caretaker Committee led by Mohammed Abdulrahman and Senator Samuel Anyanwu remains the only recognised leadership of the PDP pending the conduct of a valid national convention.

However, the Turaki faction rejected the court ruling and vowed to take the matter before the Court of Appeal.

Naija News reports that the PDP has been mired in a leadership tussle since its dismal performance in the 2023 general elections, with multiple factions claiming its national leadership.

The opposition party has faced months of legal and political battles over control of its national structure, with all previous attempts to resolve the issues having failed. See more
