Tragedy struck in the Ojodu-Berger area of Lagos on Saturday after a three-storey building collapsed, killing two people and trapping several others beneath the rubble.
The collapsed structure, which had a popular eatery operating on the ground floor, was reportedly partially occupied at the time of the incident, with the upper floors said to be vacant.
Emergency responders, including personnel from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), and officers of the Nigeria Police Force, were swiftly mobilised to the scene. They were joined by concerned residents in an intense rescue operation that extended into the evening.
As of Saturday evening, 15 people had been rescued alive from the debris, according to emergency officials who spoke to ARISE News. The rescued victims were promptly given medical attention. Rescue teams continued their search to determine if more individuals remained trapped beneath the collapsed structure.
