BREAKING: Two die, 15 rescued in Ikoyi Boat accident

Two persons lost their lives in a boat accident that happened close to Powerline, Ikoyi Link Bridge on Wednesday evening.

The boat, carrying 17 passengers, was heading to Ikorodu when it unexpectedly overturned.

The accident, according to the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), was caused by a rise in Tide which caused the boat to collide with a submerged high-tension pole, leading to its overturning.

LASWA, in a statement signed by its PRO, Wuraola Alake, confirmed that two individuals – male and a female, lost their lives in the accident.

However, the identities of the deceased have not been disclosed at this time.

The agency further stated that 15 passengers were successfully rescued from the water unharmed.

The deceased female victim was recovered from the water, but despite efforts by emergency responders, she could not be saved.

“The body of an adult female was retrieved from the water and subsequently transported from the incident scene to LASWA head office at Falomo before being confirmed dead by the LRU paramedics,” LASWA stated.

“The adult female remains have been bagged and await the arrival of the SEHMU officials. The search for the body of the adult male is ongoing.”
