BREAKING: U.S Alerts Citizens In Nigeria On IMN’s Planned Protest

The United States Embassy in Nigeria has issued a security alert to its citizens over a planned protest by the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) in Abuja and other major cities on Friday, March 28, 2025.
In a statement Friday, the embassy warned of potential disruptions and security risks.
The advisory reads, “The Islamic Movement of Nigeria has called for demonstrations in Abuja and other major cities on Friday, March 28, 2025.
“Heavy traffic and other disruptions are possible. Based on past occurrences, protests may involve roadblocks, checkpoints, traffic congestion, and physical confrontations,” the embassy stated.
According to the embassy, the protest locations may include Bannex Plaza, Berger Junction, Unity Fountain, National Human Rights Commission Head Office, Eagle Square, Area 10 Shopping Plaza, National Mosque, Al-Noor Mosque, and Fouad Lababidi Mosque.
The embassy urged residents to take precautionary measures, stating, “Avoid areas where protests are taking place. Exercise caution if unexpectedly in the vicinity of large gatherings or protests. Monitor local media for updates. Be aware of your surroundings.
“Review your personal security plans and keep your cell phone charged in case of emergency. Carry proper identification,” the embassy stated.
Meanwhile, the office of the National Security Adviser has reportedly directed security agencies to monitor the activities of the IMN over the planned protest on Friday.
A letter in circulation on social media dated March 26 said the group planned to show solidarity with Palestinians and to discredit the Nigerian Government.
The NSA revealed that members of the sect from Bauchi, Taraba, Adamawa, Gombe and Plateau States have started arriving at the sect’s camp at Rugan Juli, Karu ahead of the procession in FCT.
The letter read in parts, “Given the violent disposition of Sheikh Ibrahim Al-Zakzaky led IMN, indications are that elements of the group may exploit the mass procession to protest against USA and Israel interests across northern States, notably Kano, Katsina, Kaduna, Niger, Bauchi, Gombe, Nasarawa, Yobe, Adamawa, Sokoto and the FCT.
“Against this backdrop, it is imperative to closely monitor activities of IMN elements across the Northern States and FCT given the group’s violent antecedents. It is also necessary to ensure adequate security around the USA and Israeli Embassies in Lagos and Abuja, as well as key assets belonging to their nationals across the country.
“Furthermore, it is expedient to ensure adequate security deployment before, during and after the planned procession across the highlighted cities to preempt possible eruption of violent protest against USA and Israel,” the NSA said.
