In a rather direct and unexpected remark, Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, has taken a jab at former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, who was also the Presidential candidate of the PDP in the 2023 presidential election.
Speaking to the press shortly after the Presidential Election Petition Court upheld the victory of his principal, Bola Tinubu, and consequently dismissed the petitions filed by Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar, Shettima didn’t hold back his feelings.
He began by acknowledging Atiku’s stature, stating, ‘’Atiku Abubakar is an elder statesman and I accord him very high esteem. Anybody familiar with the socio-cultural relationship between the Fulanis and the Kanuris in the North will understand that I have the cultural latitude to address him directly, and he would, given our traditions, bear with me.”
However, Shettima’s tone then shifted as he continued, “We have no intentions of retiring Atiku Abubakar to Dubai or Morocco. Instead, I will retire him to Kombina. There, I will buy him goats, broilers, and layers so he can spend his days rearing them.”
Shettima’s remarks have since garnered significant attention and mixed reactions from the political sphere and the general public.
