Fresh details about the meeting between President Bola Tinubu and the Awujale of Ijebu land, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona Ogbagba II, have emerged.
As earlier reported by Naija News, President Tinubu, on Sunday, played host to the foremost traditional ruler at his residence in Ikoyi, Lagos.
Following the visit, a statement from the palace of the Awujale, confirmed that the monarch was with the President to personally appreciate him for conferring the second-highest national honour in Nigeria, the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON), on him.
The statement signed by the Onigegewura Akile Ijebu, Aremo Tunde Oladunjoye, conveyed the appreciation of the Awujale to the President for the award.
“The conferment of the GCON on me was a great honour, and I am truly grateful to the President and the Federal Government,” Awujale was quoted to have said during the visit.
The statement noted that the private visit on Sunday, allowed the Awujale to personally thank the President.
It would be recalled that in May 2024, President Tinubu conferred the GCON title on Oba Adetona during his 90th birthday ceremony.
Meanwhile, President Bola Tinubu will depart Abuja on Monday, January 6, for Accra, the capital of the Republic of Ghana, to attend the inauguration of President-elect John Dramani Mahama on January 7.
This was made known in a statement on Sunday by the Special Adviser to President Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
