BREAKING: Why did Chelsea recall Cesare Casadei from Leicester loan? Pochettino explains

Mauricio Pochettino has shed light on why Chelsea decided to call back Cesare Casadei. The Argentine manager explained that injuries to the midfielder prompted the club to call the Italian back.

Casadei was sent on loan to Leicester City for the entirety of the season but was called back for the second half of the campaign, scoring two goals in 22 matches for the Foxes.

However, since returning to Chelsea, the Italian midfielder hasn’t been utilised, and it remains to be seen when the 23-year-old will get his chance to make his debut for the Blues. When asked about his recall from the Championships club, Pochettino said:

🔵🇮🇹 Pochettino on recalling Casadei from #LCFC loan: “It was a tough decision because we didn’t want to cut his development”.

“But, with the injuries of Lavia and Lesley, we needed another midfielder. The squad is only Enzo, Moi and Conor”.

Although he hasn’t made his debut yet and we don’t know if he will get any chance to feature for the Blues this campaign, this could be a precautionary measure to call him back because we cannot always use Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo and Conor Gallagher as they can risk picking injuries.

We need depth in the squad, but half of our midfield is injured, and now Carney Chukwuemeka has once again picked up a new injury, and we don’t know for how long he will be unavailable. Meanwhile, Romeo Lavia continues his recovery.

So calling back Casadei was important, and hopefully, he gets his chance to play for the Blues this season; otherwise, we can only see him play the following campaign.

But if any of our starting midfielders suffers an injury, then the Italian midfielder might get his chance to make an impact in the Blues jersey.
