BREAKING: Why Osimhen fired blanks against Guinea-Bissau — Peseiro

Victor Osimhen

Head Coach of Super Eagles, Jose Peseiro has defended Napoli striker Victor Osimhen after the in-form striker failed to register a goal against Guinea-Bissau in the AFCON qualifiers doubleheader.

The 24-year-old couldn’t replicate his goal-scoring form at the club side with the national team against the Wild Dogs of Guinea-Bissau.

Osimhen was kept at bay in the first leg at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuja as the Super Eagles were stunned by a lone goal to the visitors.

However, the former Lille striker had a few shots at goal in the return fixture in Bissau but couldn’t hit the target.

Explaining why Osimhen didn’t find the back of the net in both legs against Guinea-Bissau, Super Eagles gaffer, Peseiro indicated that the Napoli talisman is under some sort of pressure to replicate his goal-scoring form at Napoli with the Super Eagles.

“Victor is the best striker in Europe, but it happens (not to score a goal),” Peseiro said after the game.

“He fights for the team, but he feels more pressure in national team than in Napoli, that’s not good.”

Osimhen is the top scorer in the qualifiers with 5 goals.
