The Department of State Services (DSS) has stated that its operatives were at the Lagos State House of Assembly based on an official request from lawmakers.
This clarification follows concerns over the security measures at the Assembly, including the sealing of offices belonging to the Speaker and his Deputy.
The DSS denied forcefully taking over the premises, stating that it was acting on a letter from the Assembly dated February 14, 2025.
According to the DSS, the letter warned of possible attempts to reinstate the impeached Speaker on February 18, 2025, which could lead to security threats.
In response, the lawmakers asked for increased security, stricter access control, and a stronger presence of security personnel starting from February 16, 2025.
The DSS assured the public that its actions were solely to maintain peace and order at the Assembly based on the lawmakers’ request.
