BREAKING: Wike fighting to make sure Rivers crisis continues

The leadership of the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) has accused the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike of working against the peace process in the political space in Rivers State.

Obong Victor Attah, a former governor of Akwa Ibom State and the chairman of PANDEF’s Peace and Reconciliation Committee alleged that Wike now uses available measures to block every effort towards addressing the political crisis in Rivers State.

Attah while speaking to journalists after the committee had met with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja said all efforts to engage Wike has remained abortive.

He said, “Following a Special General Assembly in Port Harcourt in October 2024, the group set up a seven-member High-Level Peace and Reconciliation Committee.

“Notably, the committee excluded any representatives from Rivers State to ensure neutrality,” Attah state.

Noting that the committee hopes to curtail the crisis to prevent it from snowballing into a full-blown one, Attah said leaders have been selected from states across the South-South region as mediators between the Wike and Fubara’s camps

He said, “In a determination to prevent a full-blown crisis from developing, we constituted a team of eminent elders from across the South-South region.”
